The Dreaded First Blog Post - Gold River December 2022

Ah... where to begin? I was thinking I could start last summer with some posts about my first wildfire season, but I am lazy. These next few posts will probably not be that well done as these trips have already happened and I am pretty uninterested in writing about them. But history must be recorded, so here i go...

It's become a bit of a tradition for me to go to Vancouver Island on my winter break off from school. It's one of my favourite destinations during this time as many spots are devoid of tourists, the weather is mild (somewhat), and the cold, damp and misty forests really have an effect on me. Something about it makes the old growth trees that much more grandiose and mysterious. The smells are intense, the ravens and eagles fly back and forth from tree-line to shore, and the stormy waters crash in front of you, truly a special time and place!

Me and my brother, Mika took a ferry in to Nanaimo, drove up to Campbell River, went west into Strathcona park and spent a couple nights on the Campbell reservoir. Did a bit of hiking nearby, drove further west towards Gold River and its inlet to check it out. That's about it

Very cold sleep, got down to negative 17 this night, and my poorly insulated truck canopy didn't do us too well
